Pikes Peak Cog Railway Guide
Reach New Heights: Journey to the Summit of Pikes Peak Guide
The Pikes Peak Cog Railway offers a breathtaking journey to the summit of Pikes Peak, one of Colorado's most iconic mountains. This historic railway climbs over 7,500 feet, traversing stunning landscapes and providing unparalleled views of the surrounding region. The round trip takes approximately 3 hours, allowing ample time to soak in the scenery and explore the summit. It's an unforgettable experience for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone who wants to witness the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway has a rich history dating back to 1891, when it was first constructed by Zalmon Simmons, the inventor of the Simmons Beautyrest mattress. Simmons envisioned a railway that would allow visitors to easily access the summit of Pikes Peak and enjoy its spectacular views. The railway has undergone several upgrades and renovations over the years, but it has always remained true to its original purpose: to provide a safe and scenic journey to the top of "America's Mountain." The main activity is, of course, riding the cog railway to the summit of Pikes Peak. At the summit, you can explore the Summit House, which offers food, souvenirs, and restrooms. Take in the panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, plains, and valleys. Hike around the summit area and discover the unique alpine environment. Be sure to dress warmly, as the temperature at the summit can be significantly colder than in Manitou Springs. The new Summit House opened in 2021 and offers an enhanced visitor experience.
Transportation
